Pre-consultation:
When you book in for your initial nutritional therapy consultation, you will be sent comprehensive diet, health and lifestyle questionnaire (including a 3 day food diary) to complete and return at least 3 days before your consultation. Charlotte will spend time prior to your consultation to thoroughly analyse your questionnaire, and if necessary do further research, in order to gain a thorough understanding of your health concerns together with the diet and lifestyle factors and potential underlying causes that maybe effecting your health and wellbeing.
Initial consultation:
The initial consultation lasts approximately 90mins. During the first part of the consultation we will discuss your health, medical history, diet and lifestyle in detail. We will then work together to agree an achievable, personalised nutrition and lifestyle programme designed to address your specific needs, which will include specific dietary and lifestyle recommendations tailored to your health requirements and if necessary suggested supplements. In some cases, functional health tests may also be recommended to investigate your health concerns further.
During your consultation, you will be given a Nutritional Programme Pack which will include:
- Specially selected general nutritional guidelines
- Specific health and nutrition information sheets to help you get a better understanding of your health concerns and the underlying causes
- Healthy meal ideas for breakfast, lunch, supper and snacks
- A selection of easy, nutritious and delicious recipes
- Other tools and guidance to help you put your nutritional recommendations into practice and to achieve your health goals.
This will be followed up with a detailed nutrition plan, which will be sent to you within 5 working days after your consultation. This focuses on the specific nutritional and, if necessary, supplement recommendations discussed during your consultation.
Follow-up consultations:
In order to get the most out of your nutritional therapy consultation, Charlotte recommends that clients return for at least one follow-up consultation after their initial one. It is important to note that nutritional therapy is not a quick fix and requires a large degree of self motivation and compliance. Follow-up consultations allows Charlotte to give on-going support and advice, as well as to monitor progress made since the last visit, explain any test results and to make any necessary revisions to the recommendations, to ensure that your programme is working effectively for you.
Follow-up consultations last for approximately 60 minutes and usually take place every 4-6 weeks, depending on the amount of support required. On average clients have 2-3 follow-up consultations depending on their health concerns, initial level of health and motivation / compliance to their nutrition programme. Clients also find that once their health concerns have been effectively addressed, a 6-monthly follow-up to help maintain health and well-being and to support long term healthy eating habits is very beneficial.
Given the personalised nature of nutritional therapy and functional medicine, Charlotte spends a considerable time researching and investigating your health concerns in order to create your fully comprehensive, personalised nutrition plan. Charlotte encourages on-going communication to support clients and therefore offers email contact for short questions and queries between consultations for extra support. Please note longer / complex queries are usually better dealt with in a follow-up consultation.
